The Bundles Converter tool can be used to convert existing variants into bundles.
Before creating a bundle, ensure that your inventory in TradeGecko already has variants that will convert and serve as components of the bundled product.
To convert variants into bundles in bulk, follow the 4-step guide below, illustrated with an example scenario.
Converting Variants into Bundles
From your main navigation bar on the left, click on the Inventory tab and navigate to the Products tab. From the ‘Bulk Manage’ dropdown menu, select ‘Bulk Convert to Bundles’.
You will be redirected to a new screen called the Bundle Converter. On this screen, you will be shown a couple of implications you need to be mindful of prior to proceeding.
To successfully convert your products into bundles:
- Variants being used in the Bundle are neither batch tracked nor manufactured
- Variants are currently not part of any ‘Active’ or ‘Draft’ Purchase Orders or Stock Transfers
- The ‘Manage Stock’ toggle is enabled
- Products are not already categorized as a bundle
- Products are not associated with an already existing bundle or pack size
Once you have read the implications and are ready, click on ‘Proceed to convert my bundles’ button.
Generating your bundles in a .CSV file
Step 1 of 4
Click on the ‘Generate CSV template’ button which will then transform into a ‘Download CSV Template’. Click on it again and your download should begin.
The downloaded file will be auto-saved under the name ‘Bundle Transformation Template’.
Step 2 of 4:
Start filling out accordingly and your CSV template should look like this:
A Parent SKU column: input the SKU code of the variant, you wish to convert into a Bundle (e.g. BUNDL01)
B Child SKU column: input the SKU code of the variants your Bundle is made up of (e.g. Component1/Component2)
C Quantity column: input the number ‘Child SKUs’ your Bundled variant is supposed to contain (e.g. 3)
To avoid accidentally overwriting stock, remove all non-bundled variants from the CSV before uploading the file to TradeGecko.
Alternatively, you can jump ahead to click on the ‘Generate SKU Cheatsheet’ which will allow you to quickly refer to a full list of SKUs in your TradeGecko inventory. Simply copy and paste the SKU codes from the downloaded cheatsheet into your ‘Bundle Transformation Template’.
Step 3 of 4:
Once you have prepared your CSV file, you are ready to upload and kickstart your bundle composition.
Drag and drop your file, or click ‘browse for a file’ to upload your file.
Depending on the size of your file, TradeGecko can take a few minutes to process the file. If you have a large file, we recommend breaking it down into multiple spreadsheets of 500 rows each.
To create a new line (inside the note), hit shift + enter.
Calculating stock levels
Here, you will see a column on the far right – ‘Re-calculated Stock Level’ which will display two statuses of the bundle quantity that is in-stock or out-of-stock. The bundle quantity is determined by the stock level of its components (i.e. variants constituting the bundle).
Assuming that the required quantity to make a Dental bundle is as follows, the bundle quantity is 1 - refer to the Complete Bundle below.
However, if the inventory lacks one or more of the components (e.g. only 1 toothpaste and 3 toothbrushes), the bundle quantity will be 0 - refer to the Incomplete bundle above.
Bundle Quantities are automatically calculated in TradeGecko! Check out this article to understand how stock levels are calculated for bundles.
Next, you will be asked to confirm your changes. Click on the ‘Start the import’ button to proceed.
If you encounter errors:
Simply follow the on-screen instructions to amend your errors and re-upload the corrected CSV template.
Step 4 of 4:
When your imports are in the process, you will see stages being updated progressively as shown below:
Finally, a confirmation page will load displaying a summary of changes that took place in the process of converting into bundles.
In some cases, depending on the number of bundles being converted, it may take a while for the process to finish. During which, an email confirmation will be sent to notify you when the bundles’ conversion process is complete.
And you’re done! 🎉
Always do your Bundling of products in TradeGecko to eliminate the chances of having variations in your inventory.
👇🏼Here's an example:
You want to create multiple bundles at one go via. CSV, such as those below:
(SKU1001) → Marvel Stationery Set
- SKU 1002 Marvel Pencil x1
- SKU 1003 Marvel Notebook x1
(SKU2001) → Dental Whitening Kit
- SKU 2002 Floss x1
- SKU 2003 Toothbrush x2
- SKU 2004 Whitening toothpaste x2
- SKU 2005 Listerine Mouthwash x1
(SKU3001) → Newborn Baby Hamper
- SKU 3002 Three-way Baby carrier x1
- SKU 3003 Face towels x2
- SKU 3004 Baby headwear x2
- SKU 3005 Baby Bibs x1
Using the downloaded CSV template from TradeGecko, you would then fill in your sheet to reflect as below:
Lastly, once you upload your updated CSV file, your Parent SKUs 1001, 2001 and 3001 will convert into bundles, and stop existing as individual variants.
At this stage, the bundle quantity will also be re-calculated based on their components. To illustrate, assuming there are 10 Marvel pencils and 5 Marvel notebooks, ‘Marvel Stationery Set’ bundle quantity will now be 5.
