Order management – generally known as sales management, is the full set of actions required by a seller to deliver a customer the goods they have ordered. It includes the process of tracking a sales transaction from inception (when the order is placed with the seller) right through to completion (when the goods are received by the customer). It encompasses online stock and order management right through to fulfillment.
How the Shopify Sales Orders and Fulfillment Syncs
When a Sales Order comes into Shopify, a Finalized order and invoice is created in QuickBooks Commerce to reflect this sale, and the order is subsequently marked as paid.
The order status is marked as paid only if the financial status in Shopify is set to ‘paid’.
A user in QuickBooks Commerce would then proceed to pick and pack to fulfill the order - it is at the fulfillment stage that stock is decremented from your QuickBooks Commerce stock levels - again, these changes are then reflected in Shopify stock levels.

At times, you may not have all of the products that were purchased in the order. In such cases, QuickBooks Commerce allows you to partially fulfill this order, and ship only the products you have available.
Once a Sales Order is fulfilled in QuickBooks Commerce - it is then marked as fulfilled in Shopify.
Stock Management Process for Shopify
On the platform, you can create Purchase Orders, Stock Transfers, or Stock Adjustments which modify & create the stock in the QuickBooks Commerce stock control. All the updates you make to your stock levels are then reflected in Shopify.
Any adjustments to the products or sales orders’ line items in QuickBooks Commerce will not be reflected back into Shopify.
For e.g. changing the quantity of the line item in QuickBooks Commerce will not update the same on Shopify.
In a nutshell:
